Williams-Murray partnership lives up to expectation

The much-hyped mixed doubles duo of Serena Williams and Andy Murray made it to centre court late on Saturday – about 4½ hours after Williams has disposed of Julia Goerges out on  No. 1 Court.

And it didn’t disappoint a packed stadium as Williams and Murray beat Andreas Mies and Alexa Guarachi 6-4, 6-1.

Her performance even included one serve, rated at 122 mph, equalling the fastest hit in singles by any woman during the tournament.

“Andy and I both love the competition. I know we both want to do well,” Williams said. “We’re not here just for show.”

Murray said the pair had been taking it in turns to be captain.

“We were saying we’re both the younger siblings, so we’re used to being bossed by our older brother and sister – we’re taking it in turns to be boss!” he said.
