USTA shuts down local tennis nationwide
With New York fast becoming the American epicentre of the COVID-19 breakout, the USTA has taken steps to limit the spread by shutting down local tennis nationwide until early May at least.
The sanctioning body whose own US Open due to start August 31 has to be considered in danger of not being held due to the worldwide virus spread, said it has suspended all of its competitions on advice of its medical advisors.
The hit list includes all adult and junior tournaments, the USTA League, schools, university and wheelchair events..
“Due to the fast moving nature of the situation, “the USTA will continue to monitor and assess conditions to make future determinations about events and activities taking place after May 3.”
